What is It?
Home Green Home proudly carries a full line of Safecoat paints, the flagship brand in non-toxic, super-premium quality, low-VOC, low-odor enamels.
Safecoat paints come in standard quart, gallon, and five-gallon sizes.
Standard finishes are available in:
Flat - low-shine ("dull") finish for general use
Eggshell - typically used for interior walls, has slight sheen and is easier to clean
Semi-Gloss (for Pastel-base colors only) - high-shine, durable finish. Often used for high-moisture areas (i.e. bathrooms, laundry) or areas with frequent cleaning needs (children's rooms)
In addition Safecoat creates a durable Cabinet & Trim enamel for high-maintenance applications such as furniture and trim work, chair rails, etc. Available in Eggshell and Semi-Gloss.
Choose Safecoat All-Purpose Exterior Satin for exterior painting.
People often ask whether they can get away with not priming a surface, or with merely applying one coat of paint.
Please be aware that priming is always recommended! An unprepared or improperly prepared surface can result in very serious paint problems later on, and this is especially so when using true enamel paints like Safecoat. Because Safecoat forms a solid "seal" over surfaces, it's especially important that it bonds evenly over the entire surface area.
The decision to apply two or more coats of color is less critical (and certainly much more easily rectified). However at least two coats is always recommended for any application where quality decorative design is important to you.
Also, be aware that some people feel the sheen on Safecoat paints tends slightly to the glossy side, although in truth there are few who notice this difference. If the final finish is highly important to you, however, you might want to err toward the flat side.
Deckote Concrete Paint
Safecoat Deckote is designed to
provide a durable surface coating to either interior or exterior concrete. Used outside on pool decks, patios, walkways
and driveways, Deckote offers heat-reflectivity and beauty. Indoors, it can be tinted to hundreds of custom colors to provide designers with a versatile solution when finishing basements or slab flooring.
Deckote
dries to a hard, durable, semi-gloss surface which provides lasting protection, yet
contains no offensive solvents, fumes or odors. Mineral aggregates may be added to reduce slipperiness.
Deckote is also suitable for
use over properly primed metal.

Transitional Primer
Transitional Primer is a universal primer formulated for general needs as well as providing a highly "tenacious" coverage in difficult application situations. May be used on interior and exterior surfaces, and over oil-based paints, paneling, plaster, stucco, masonry, and more. Serves as a stain-blocker as well, and prevents "bleed-through" of existing surface oils and grease. Safecoat Transitional Primer has the lowest toxicity for any product of its type.
Primecoat HPV is a specialty primer designed for use over new drywall, wallboard and sheetrock. Because of the uneven porocity and high acidity in these surfaces, traditional primers won't coat and bond evenly. HPV allows for a smooth, homogeneous surface even over taped joints. Note that Primecoat HPV possesses far greater rigidity than other primers, yet will still roll or brush-on smoothly. It may be thinned, however, with up to 1 gallon of water for every 5 gallons of product to provide easier application.
MetalCoatAcrylic Metal Primer provides a tough, flexible film with outstanding corrosion and rust resistance over metals such as iron, steel (galvanized or not), and aluminum; or masonry. It is not recommended for copper. May be applied with roller, nylon brush or airless sprayer.

Safecoat
paints are formulated to create as little off-gassing as
possible. They're also formulated as enamel sealants, so they provide a barrier against chemical
off-gassing in any underlying paints or wall-surface materials.
But if Safecoat is so healthy, why is it only labeled "Low-VOC"?
Don't be fooled by recent VOC hype. VOC designation for a chemical
has little to do directly with human health, but only indicates whether
a substance produces "smog" in the atmosphere. Thus comparing
VOC-levels and product toxicity is literally comparing apples and oranges: not all VOC's are toxic....but more importantly, few Low- or Zero-VOC paints are non-toxic!
So it's
not enough for paint companies to simply remove a handful of "VOC's" and market their product as environmental. Safecoat formulates
their paints from the ground up to be non-toxic, by
using only very refined resins and high-quality raw materials. This allows
them to avoid the residual chemical compounds that most companiesrely on
to help compensate for cheaper-cost base ingredients -- chemicals which generally offgas into the
building environment for long periods of time.
