"The Human-Powered Home"
The Human-Powered Home
We had a great turn-out for local author Tamara Dean's book release "The Human-Powered Home: Choosing Muscles over Motors". We'll post pics as soon as we can get them up, and of course copies are available for purchase in the store or via Amazon.com at this link: The Human-Powered Home
Praised by the likes of Bill McKibben and Sandor Katz, The Human-Powered Home provides "a compendium of information on pedal-powered, treadled, and
hand-cranked devices for use in and around the home."
"Thanks to pedals, treadles, and cranks, our muscles have operated
machines since Medieval times. Could we once again rely on human power,
rather than fossil fuels, to run our lives? How much power can one
person generate? Discover the answers to these questions and learn
about ingenious human-powered contraptions used around the globe today."
And for those who keep asking, Sonya Newenhouse of Madison Environmental Group'sCasa Kit Homes division will also be on hand that day, to answer questions and talk about one of the hottest emerging movements in the future of American home-building: the return to small-footprint, efficiently designed, healthy and affordable home-building.
Casa Kit Homes is breaking-ground on their Viroqua development this Spring, so don't miss this chance to discover why SW Wisconsin continues to lead the nation in the Green Cultural Revolution!
Home Green Home is proud to be a founding member of the Kickapoo Green Builders Guild. The guild provides an ongoing educational resource for "designers, architects, builders, contractors and consultants dedicated to the creation and maintenance of environmentally sustainable, energy-efficient and non-toxic buildings, homes and work-spaces" in the SW Wisconsin region.
The Kickapoo Green Builders Guild
(KGBG) recognizes that green building is inherently a values-based
system. As such, it reflects one's personal world-view—and not simply
a
business opportunity! Yet as interest and demand for green building
expands it's becoming more difficult for consumers to discern the
green from the “green-wash”.
To meet this need the KGBG seeks to
apply the proven benefits of the traditional trade guild. A
traditional guild offers a living, dynamic way to support and learn
from each other. It further provides the community with a measurement
of authenticity that no “static” certification program or
self-promotion could provide.
